About the record

New Acoustica gathers eleven pieces of electronic music — from warehouse rave to footwork, hyperpop to experimental club — and rebuilds each one for sixteen musicians playing instruments made of wood, brass, and skin. No backing tracks. No presets. Every glitch, stutter, and sub-bass drop re-imagined by hand.

In 2005, Acoustica: Alarm Will Sound Performs Aphex Twin proved a chamber orchestra could live inside a DAW. Since then, electronic music has exploded in every direction — and Alarm Will Sound has been engaging with it all along. Where Acoustica went deep on a single artist, New Acoustica goes wide: a panorama of what electronic music has become, and of the many ways this band has invented to play it — including original collaborations, not only arrangements of existing tracks.

Beyond the score

Composing most of this music does not use notation. New Acoustica was built through practices Alarm Will Sound has invented over years of collaboration: learning by ear, sampling themselves, trading stems with producers, de-centering notation to meet each artist inside their own process.

The result blurs more than genre. It blurs how the music gets made at all.
