The story
In 2005, Alarm Will Sound released Acoustica: Alarm Will Sound Performs Aphex Twin — a record that proved a chamber orchestra could think like a DAW, and became a touchstone for a generation of musicians on both sides of the classical/electronic divide.
New Acoustica is not a sequel. It's the opposite. Where Acoustica went deep on one artist, New Acoustica goes wide — across footwork (Jlin), hyperpop (SOPHIE), techno and experimental club music (King Britt, Lucrecia Dalt, Tim Exile), and yes, Aphex Twin — tracing how far electronic music has traveled in two decades, with the band engaging it every step of the way.
Just as radical is how it was made. Much of this music resists notation, so the ensemble worked the way producers do: by ear, by stem, by iteration — collaborating directly with artists on original works alongside arrangements, and inventing performance practices well outside their music-school training.
